October is a good time to make two plans: one for this weekend and one for Halloween. For Oct 9–11, keep the first plan simple. Choose a neighborhood, agree on the kind of night you want and give the group chat an actual starting point. A lounge night in Dupont and a multi-level bar night in Clarendon are different assignments, so settle that part before everyone heads out.
There are no District Nights events listed for this weekend. Coming next: Nightmare on M St: DC Halloween Bar Crawl on Saturday, October 24 in Dupont Circle, BOE’s Haunted Rodeo on Friday, October 30 at BOE, and Haunted Hotel on Saturday, October 31 at Yours Truly DC. Until then, here are a few ways to build your own night around DC and Arlington.
Around DC
Start with the room, not just the neighborhood. In Downtown / Penn Quarter, SAX brings a theatrical restaurant-and-lounge setting with velvet, gold frames and a stage. It is a strong option when your group wants the setting to feel like part of the night. Think a more dressed-up catch-up rather than an evening built around bouncing between several neighborhoods.
Dupont Circle gives you two different lounge directions. Rosebar Lounge is an upscale choice known for bottle service and late nights. Onyx Rooftop Lounge, on M Street between Dupont and Golden Triangle, puts the rooftop setting first. Pick based on what your friends actually want: a late-night lounge atmosphere or a rooftop-centered gathering. Check current venue details before committing, especially if you are considering a table.
For a more colorful starting point, Tiki on 18th sits one floor above 18th Street in Adams Morgan, with tropical cocktails and island bites. That makes it an easy venue to consider for a happy-hour-style meetup or a group night with food in the plan. Keep your first stop clear, then decide together whether the night needs a second chapter.
Around Arlington
Clarendon is a useful anchor when half the group wants a bar and the other half wants a bigger night out. Don Tito combines a Mexican party-bar identity with multiple levels and a rooftop. BOE offers a Clarendon hangout setting and is home to BOE Fridays and Rodeo Fridays. These are different starting points, so choose the atmosphere before you choose the meeting time.
If your group prefers a lounge, Darna Lounge is known for weekly themed nights, VIP tables and a late crowd. Check the current lineup rather than assuming a particular theme this weekend. For a larger celebration, Clarendon Ballroom has a ballroom, a big rooftop bar with cabanas and private rooms. Its layout is worth considering when keeping a large group together matters more than moving between stops.
Plan Ahead for Halloween
The upcoming Halloween calendar gives you three distinct plans to discuss now: a DC bar crawl, BOE’s Haunted Rodeo and Haunted Hotel. Send the actual event name to your friends so everyone is talking about the same outing. The costume conversation can follow, but choosing which night you want is the decision that gets the plan moving.
Before locking anything in, check the latest event information and any venue entry or reservation requirements. District Nights public events are 21+, so make sure that works for everyone in your group. If you are planning a fall birthday or a bigger friend gathering instead, compare the room, group size and reservation options early. A little coordination now beats negotiating the whole night at the door.
Coming up next
- Nightmare on M St: DC Halloween Bar Crawl (Sat, Oct 24, Dupont Circle)
- BOE’s Haunted Rodeo (Fri, Oct 30, BOE)
- Haunted Hotel (Sat, Oct 31, Yours Truly DC)
This weekend, pick the neighborhood that fits your people and resist overloading the itinerary. One well-chosen starting point is enough. Then put your Halloween choice on the calendar so late October does not become another round of “what are we doing?”
